My host takes daily backups already. Why pay for more?
Server-side backups handle the everyday case well and they come with our hosting. What they cannot handle is the server itself being the problem: a compromise, a hardware failure or an account suspension can take the site and its backups down together. Off-server storage exists for exactly that day — and it is your only option at all if you host somewhere that does not back up.

How often should I really be backing up?
Match it to how much work you are prepared to do twice. A company website that changes once a month is perfectly safe on daily backups. A shop taking orders every hour loses real money with a copy that is a day old, so its database needs snapshots far more often. The useful question is not how often to back up — it is how much you can afford to lose.

Will a backup stop me getting hacked?
No — it saves you from the consequences. A backup is how you get a working site back quickly, but restoring without closing the way in means you will be reinfected within days. Recovery and prevention are two separate jobs: restore from a snapshot you trust, then patch the vulnerability or change the credentials that let somebody in.

How is this different from a WordPress backup plugin?
A plugin lives inside the very site it is protecting. When WordPress will not load — a fatal PHP error, a white screen, an admin area someone else now controls — you usually cannot reach the plugin either, which is precisely the moment you needed it. An external service connects over SFTP and works whether the site is up or not, and it covers files outside WordPress that a plugin never sees.

Can I restore just one file instead of everything?
Yes, and usually you should. A full restore rolls back everything, orders and comments and content added since the snapshot included. Putting back the one theme file or database table that broke leaves the rest of the site exactly as it is — which matters enormously on a store, where a full rollback would wipe out genuine transactions.
